Some locations are just meant to be photographed: The New York City skyline, the Waikiki Beach shoreline, anywhere in the Amalfi Coast, and this place- the Sutro Baths in San Francisco. If you’ve never been to the Sutro Baths, I highly suggest a visit. It’s where San Francisco archeology and the sprawling Pacific Ocean come together to create some really amazing scenery. It’s a perfect backdrop and staging ground for a family photography session. So much so in fact, that at any given time, you’ll most likely see a handful of professional photographers there with gear in hand, waiting for the masses to clear to get that perfect shot. Myself and this family was no exception on this day.
Lighting is essential, and I took advantage of the late afternoon’s golden light to photograph this lovely group. I just love how everything kind of creamed together. Though the natural backdrop had a hand in making the photos stand out, the family’s interaction with one another really set the photos apart. Additionally, they were so easy to work with and such a delight to photograph in and around the Baths. They took such care with the young ones, and you can see in their smiles how happy they were to be a family. I know the Sutro Baths can make every family photography session pretty, but this family made the Baths look pretty.
Have a look!
